Unattached
What Are You Holding On To?
Living as pilgrims in this life is not a loss. It is freedom! When our hearts are fixed on God’s eternal Kingdom, the power and riches and pleasures of this world lose their grip on us. We will stop grasping after what will not last.
Pilgrims are not wanderers. They know exactly where they are going. And they are not poor – they are simply unattached.
Abraham understood this. He left everything, “looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose Designer and Builder is God” (Hebrews 11:10).
This is something the world cannot understand. All they know are the things of this life, and so they give all their heart and time and effort to possess as much of it as they can.
But when we hold everything here loosely, we are free! We are free to enjoy the blessings of God now (1 Timothy 6:17) while needing none of it (Philippians 4:11-13). And we are free to do what we are made for – to worship and serve the Lord our God, now and for eternity!
Nothing on this earth is worth trading for that!
